Today, the National Waste Water Taskforce Assessment Team commenced a comprehensive sewage system assessment across the Port Vila Central Business District (CBD). This follows a key resolution passed during the National Waste Water Taskforce Board meeting held on March 20th, 2025.

The assessment is a high-priority action under the Government's 100-Day Plan, which outlines urgent tasks to be undertaken within the first few months of implementation. As such, the team is working under a strict timeline, with completion and reporting of findings-including practical recommendations-required by May 2025.

The focus of assessment is to address long-standing concerns surrounding Port Vila's sewage infrastructure, which has increasingly become a serious public health hazard. Issues such as system blockages, overflows, and environmental contamination have underscored the need for immediate and effective interventions.

This initiative reflects the Government's commitment to improving sanitation, public health, and sustainable urban development. The findings from this assessment will help guide strategic investments and policy decisions and aimed at upgrading wastewater management systems in the capital city.
