A World Bank delegation visits Vanuatu to discuss recovery, urban development and the Port Vila CBD rebuild with government counterparts.
Rehabilitation works are underway at Feiawa Park and the Port Vila Seafront, helping restore and improve public facilities used by residents, vendors and visitors.
The project is supported by the Government of New Zealand through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), in partnership with Port Vila City Council (PVCC). The Fletcher Organization Vanuatu LTD is carrying out the works, with the Department of Urban Affairs and Planning (DUAP) Project Management Unit supporting coordination with the wider CBD rebuild.
Representatives from PVCC and the DUAP PMU have visited the site to review progress. The work includes new natangura roofing for the Mamas’ Handikraf Market, minor repairs, refurbishment of tables and benches, repainting, replacement of playground sand and improvements to landscaped areas.
These practical improvements help maintain an important waterfront space for recreation, livelihoods and tourism. They also complement the Port Vila CBD Vision and Concept Plan’s direction for better public spaces and stronger connections across the city centre.
The rehabilitation builds on New Zealand’s longstanding partnership with PVCC and its earlier investment in Port Vila’s waterfront.
