New Zealand-supported rehabilitation of Port Vila’s seafront contributes to the recovery of public spaces and the CBD Vision and Concept Plan.
UN Women is partnering with Port Vila City Council to undertake a gender-responsive safety and access audit of the Port Vila Central Market and surrounding Market Precinct, as part of the wider Port Vila CBD rebuild.
The Market Precinct is identified in the CBD Vision and Concept Plan as an important economic and community hub. It connects vendors, businesses, public transport and the waterfront, serving residents and visitors throughout the week.
The audit will help identify practical improvements to safety and accessibility, so future redevelopment can better meet the needs of women, girls, vendors and the wider community.
This work forms part of wider planning for the future redevelopment of the Port Vila Market House and surrounding Market Precinct. It will help inform how this important part of the CBD can become safer, more accessible and better connected.
