DUAP PMU discusses the CBD rebuild with business stakeholders.

Public consultation on the Port Vila CBD Vision and Concept Plan recorded strong support for the proposed direction of the rebuild, alongside practical priorities for improving the city centre.

Of the 197 people who answered the question on support for the Plan, 87.82% agreed or strongly agreed. The online survey received 329 responses overall, with different numbers of people answering each question.

The findings show a preference for a greener CBD and more space for walking. Roads ranked highest when respondents were asked what government should rebuild first. Respondents also highlighted safer buildings, street lighting, better building designs and stronger construction materials.

Written comments provided further detail on transport, pedestrian access, parking and traffic movement. These responses highlight the need to consider the everyday needs of people walking, catching public transport, accessing businesses and travelling through the CBD.

The results provide useful evidence for detailed planning and continued stakeholder engagement. They reflect the views of survey participants and should be considered alongside technical assessments and further engagement with groups whose needs may be less visible in the survey.

DUAP acknowledges everyone who contributed their views to help shape the future of Port Vila’s CBD.

The Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry also supported awareness and consultation with the business community through Vois Blong Vila. Read the Vois Blong Vila community and business consultation report (2025).
